Fire at Hydro One's Richview Station

Mar 18, 2011

TORONTO, March 18 /CNW/ - Hydro One confirms two transformers are on fire at Richview Transformer Station, located at Kelfield Street in Etobicoke.

The fire commenced at 4:49 p.m. There were no injuries or health and safety issues reported as a result of the incident. At 5:42 p.m. Toronto Hydro successfully transferred all load supplied by these transformers to other stations, restoring power to all affected customers.

Local fire fighters and emergency services are on site. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

At Richview Transformer Station (TS), electricity is stepped-down to lower voltages and then distributed along Toronto Hydro's power lines to its customers.

Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario and owns and operates Ontario's 29,000 km high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 123,000 km low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Province of Ontario.
