TORONTO, Oct. 31, 2012 /CNW/ - Hydro One confirms it has now restored power to more than 84,000 customers following the storms caused by the remnants of Hurricane Sandy, which caused extensive damage to its distribution system across southern Ontario.

Approximately, 6,000 customers concentrated in Parry Sound, Lambton and Bracebridge remain without power; Hydro One expects to restore the majority of these by 6 p.m. tonight.

"We are now entering into the most difficult stage of our restoration effort," said Len McMillan, Vice President, Lines and Forestry. "Crews will complete a repair job on a secondary line and only restore a couple of properties. We thank our customers for their continued patience and support."

Hydro One continues to underscore the importance of staying clear of downed power lines. Even if a fallen wire seems dead, it can be dangerous. Touching a vehicle or a tree that is in contact with a power line can be fatal.
