Freezing rain and high winds knock out power to more than 91,000 Hydro One customers

TORONTO, April 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Hydro One crews are working to restore power to 91,000 customers mainly in southern and central Ontario. Heavy rain and high winds have downed trees and power lines, causing power outages. Some of the major areas affected are listed below:

Hydro One crews assessing damage and making repairs and it is expected that the number of customers affected by this storm may increase as the storm moves across the province. Power will be restored as soon as possible and Hydro One will provide updates on restoration times once the extent of the storm damage has been determined.

Hydro One strongly urges people to take extra precaution near fallen power lines. Even if a fallen wire seems dead, it can be dangerous. People are urged to report to Hydro One the location of the fallen wires as soon as possible by calling 1-800-434-1235. Touching a vehicle that is in contact with a power line can be fatal.
