Hydro One team effort returns electricity to over 170,000 customers

- Second storm in a week damages distribution equipment -

TORONTO, Jan. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - Hydro One crews cleared trees, replaced poles, transformers, and hundreds of kilometres of electrical lines to restore power to more than 170,000 customers after a windstorm caused widespread damage across southern Ontario.

"Winter storms make restoration work that much more challenging for our crews, but their dedication to getting every customer restored as quickly and safely as possible is what makes us all proud to be a part of this company," said Greg Kiraly, Chief Operating Officer, Hydro One.

"We know how much everyday life depends on electricity so it's all hands on deck until every last customer has their power back," said Bill Smeaton, Lines Safety Prime, Hydro One. "Safety is always our top priority and even though weather conditions in certain areas were very dangerous, we managed to get almost all customers restored in 24 hours with no restoration-related injuries."

Hydro One reminds all customers as the winter storm season is here, to restock their 72- hour emergency preparedness kit. The kit should contain:
