Statement from Mayo Schmidt, President and CEO of Hydro One

TORONTO, Dec. 15, 2017 /CNW/ - The following is a statement from Mayo Schmidt, President and CEO, Hydro One:

Today, the Hydro One family is in mourning. On Thursday, a fatal helicopter crash took the lives of four of our friends and co-workers while they were completing work on a transmission tower.

Our hearts and love are with those young men and their families.

While today information is still not available as to what caused the crash, Hydro One and teams of specialists are working on site, supported by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, to determine the cause as quickly as we can.

The health, safety, and well-being of every single person at Hydro One are paramount to me, this company, and to all of our people.

Over the coming days we are stopping all we are doing and gathering together to respect, grieve and honour our fallen friends, starting this morning for a vigil outside of our Hydro One headquarters.

We are extremely grateful for the courageous efforts of the first Responders and Hydro One teammates who rushed immediately to the scene to assist.

We all are grateful and very much appreciate the outpouring of support, thoughts and love we have received from the communities in which we work and live in Ontario. We remain focused on supporting the families of our young men; please join us in prayer and in extending our deepest sympathies to their families during this difficult time.
