Hydro One incentive program contributes $149,903 towards new streetlights in Russell Township

Russell Township, ON – May 16, 2017 – Last night, Hydro One presented a cheque for $149,903 to Russell Township for taking part in a conservation program to retrofit its roadway lighting. The Township converted 1,064 street lights to energy efficient LEDs which will save more than 880,000 kWh per year, enough to power about 100 homes for 12 months.

“Hydro One is improving our customer service and our relationship with our customers,” said Warren Lister, Vice President, Customer Service, Hydro One. “We’re here to help businesses and municipalities achieve long-term savings through energy conservation and incentive programs.”

“Russell Township is one of the biggest consumers of electrical energy in the United Counties. This cheque, along with recent upgrades, helps us achieve our goal of reducing energy costs. I would like to thank Hydro One for their support in our energy conservation efforts,” said Mayor Pierre Leroux, Russell Township.

In 2015 and 2016, municipalities in Hydro One’s service territory converted over 42,000 roadway lighting fixtures to LED, saving more than 81,469,000 kWh per year, enough to power 9,000 homes for the same duration. The incentive program is funded through the IESO’s Save on Energy program and is delivered by Hydro One. Incentive funds can cover up to 50 per cent of a project’s cost.

Hydro One has incentive programs for businesses, hospitals, farms, schools and universities to make energy efficient upgrades to lighting or equipment. Visit www.HydroOne.com/MyBusiness to learn more about incentive programs or email SaveOnEnergy@HydroOne.com.
