Hydro One electrifies the 2018 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo

TORONTO, September 17, 2018 – Hydro One is powering the 2018 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) running from September 18 - 22, 2016 in Pain Court, Chatham-Kent. For more than 15 years, Hydro One has supported the IPM by building the electrical grid that powers the event and RV park enjoyed by over 80,000 visitors annually.

Apprentices build the infrastructure to supply enough electricity to power the equivalent of a small town, in a controlled and supervised environment over a four week period taking approximately 1,920 hours.  Building the electrical grid represents a $500,000 in-kind investment and it provides an excellent opportunity for Hydro One apprentices to work in a safe environment.

“We’re proud and honoured to power our farming customers’ largest annual event,” said Jason Fitzsimmons, Chief Corporate Affairs and Customer Care Officer, Hydro One. “The International Plowing Match hosts our rural, farming and small business customers and it is important to us that we give back by supporting this fantastic event through the efforts of our dedicated employees.”

Visitors of all ages will enjoy interactive displays Hydro One’s site during the event where they’ll learn how Hydro One safely keeps the lights on across the province every day.

One of the main features of Hydro One’s site is the Electricity Discovery Centre - a 1,000-square foot mobile education trailer with interactive games and exhibits that explain Ontario’s power system, helps customers with energy savings tips and educates children about electricity safety.
