Mississauga, ON - March 11, 2019 – Today, Hydro One returned as the presenting sponsor of the 48th Little Native Hockey League tournament, an indigenous-led event offering young players from across the province a safe place to compete. All week, participants are invited to Hydro One’s Hockey Experience room to participate in a range of off-ice activities including shoot-out games, opportunities to learn about the work done by Hydro One employees and take part in the safety pledge wall.

“This stand-out event offers the unique opportunity for communities across the province to build memories together and participate in building leadership, teamwork and strengthening confidence,” said Derek Chum, Vice President, Indigenous Relations, Hydro One. “As this year’s presenting sponsor, Hydro One is proud to support an Indigenous-led event and the opportunity it provides for young players to compete in a safe environment.”

For the first time, Hydro One launched its “Win as One Team” contest, where participants were invited to share their team spirit and excitement for the tournament. With over 50 entries from across the province, the Garden River Little Thunder Tyke Team was selected as the winner and received new hockey sticks.

The 48th annual tournament takes place from March 11 – 14 and is expected to be the largest in the organization’s history, with over 2,500 competitors from Indigenous communities in Ontario meeting in Mississauga.

Hydro One serves 88 First Nations communities in Ontario, including 15 remote First Nations communities across Northern Ontario.
