Hydro One to host community drop-in sessions in advance of Chatham to Lakeshore Transmission Line construction

Community engagement to occur this week with construction to commence in May

Essex, ON, April 18, 2023 – Hydro One announced today that it plans to start construction of its new Chatham to Lakeshore Transmission Line in May. The company is hosting two in-person community drop-in sessions on April 18 and 19 in Chatham and Comber, to ensure community members and residents are well-informed during the construction of this project. At each session, residents can meet Hydro One’s project team and construction contractor, Voltage Power Limited, and learn more about the upcoming construction activities, potential disruptions or road closures for the project.

Community Drop-in sessions:

  • Tuesday, April 18, 2023 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Comber Community Centre, 6211-6213 McAllaster St, Comber, ON
  • Wednesday, April 19, 2023 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. at St. Paul’s-Victoria Avenue United Church, 22125 Communication Rd. Chatham, ON

“We are approaching another exciting milestone on the Chatham to Lakeshore Transmission Line project that will bring us closer to unlocking the full economic potential of clean energy for the region,” said Andrew Spencer, Executive Vice President, Capital Portfolio Delivery, Hydro One. “Our priority is to engage with the community to be transparent about what to expect during the construction of this new line. We will continue to work closely with Indigenous communities, municipalities, businesses, and residents to mitigate any potential construction impacts.”

“Our community has many new economic opportunities to look forward to with the increase in capacity of clean electricity the Chatham to Lakeshore Transmission Line will bring,” said Darrin Canniff, Mayor, Municipality of Chatham-Kent. “Working together with Hydro One, our community can understand the potential impacts of construction as we prepare for the endless possibilities clean and reliable electricity could foster in Chatham-Kent.”

"At Voltage Power Limited, we take a collaborative approach to building critical projects with transparency and honesty,” said Steve Jeffery, Director of Operations, Voltage Power Limited. “We’re excited to work with Hydro One to help bring much-needed electricity to communities in southwest Ontario.”

The new Chatham to Lakeshore Transmission Line is a double-circuit 230-kilovolt transmission line between the Chatham Switching Station in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the newly built Lakeshore Switching Station in the Municipality of Lakeshore. Once completed and in-service by 2025, the new line will increase the amount of available clean energy to the region providing enough electricity to power a community the size of Windsor.
