- Power restored to over 60,000 today -
TORONTO, Jan. 4, 2017 /CNW/ - The severe weather that started late last night continued to cause power outages on Hydro One's distribution system throughout central and eastern Ontario today. Hydro One crews have been working hard restoring power to over 60,000 customers since the storm started.
There are currently 177 active outages affecting over 8,564 customers and it is expected that approximately 7,600 customers will remain off overnight.
All crews are out in full force, which includes line maintainers, foresters and technicians, to respond to outages. As power restoration work is completed in one area, associated crews are dispatched to new areas needing their attention. In addition, the company has mobilized crews from parts of the province where there is no storm damage so they can support the restoration effort.
"High winds, freezing rain and heavy snow caused widespread damage in a number of the communities we serve," said Greg Kiraly, Chief Operating Officer, Hydro One. "Our lines and forestry crews have worked tirelessly over the past 24 hours and have made considerable progress getting our customers back online as safely and quickly as possible."
Customers looking for information on power outages can call 1-800-434-1235 or download the Hydro One power outage app. Customers can also register to receive proactive personalized text or email alerts about power outages.
