Hydro One investigation results in arrest of an employee
TORONTO, January 31, 2017 – A Hydro One employee and a former contractor in the Timmins area have been arrested and charged by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with theft of power.
OPP’s arrests were part of a Hydro One investigation that began on January 15th looking into alleged theft of power at business and residential addresses near Timmins, Ontario. Hydro One alerted the OPP upon beginning its investigation and has been working in tandem with them as the investigation progresses. It is alleged that these individuals stole power by installing meter bypass devices.
“Hydro One has zero tolerance for unethical and criminal behaviour. Upon receiving this information, a focused investigation was initiated. We intend to use the full powers of our investigative team to get to the bottom of this case and any other potential cases of power theft,” said Rick Haier, Chief Security Officer of Hydro One Inc.
Power theft is illegal, costly to customers and dangerous to the public. Any person who suspects theft are asked to call the Hydro One anonymous Tip Line 1-866-550-6477.
