PETERBOROUGH, ON, July, 20, 2020 /CNW/ - Today, Hydro One announced funding to support YES Shelter for Youth and Families, a community organization that offers critical services to support hundreds of vulnerable youth and families in Peterborough and the Kawarthas through homelessness. The funding will allow YES Shelter to purchase a truck to transport food, supplies, and move kids and families into housing.
“At Hydro One, we’re proud to stand with the communities where we work and live, especially at a challenging time like this,” said Jason Fitzsimmons, Chief Corporate Affairs and Customer Care Officer, Hydro One. “We believe we have a deep responsibility to help families and businesses in Peterborough, Lakefield and Norwood and we will continue to energize life by supporting charitable organizations that are making a difference in these communities.”
“We're so grateful to Hydro One for providing the YES Shelter for Youth and Families with a much-needed new truck,” said Meagan Hennekam, Executive Director, YES Shelter for Youth and Families. “This vehicle will ensure we can pick up the food donations that feed people in shelter, drive youth to appointments that improve their lives, and will literally move hundreds of young people and families from homelessness into housing. This truck will improve the services we offer youth and families who are struggling, and Hydro One has made that happen.”
“The services provided by the YES Shelter for Youth and Families provide support that enables vulnerable families and young people in our community to improve their lives,” said Mayor Diane Therrien. “We are grateful to Hydro One for their generous support for the YES Shelter. This is an excellent example of what can be accomplished when our community comes together.”
“What an honour it is to be here today to acknowledge this donation,” said Dave Smith, MPP for Peterborough–Kawartha. “I want to thank Hydro One for their generosity and the YES Shelter for the essential work they provide for our community. No doubt the last few months have been incredibly challenging, so thank you for your resiliency and kindness in light of this unprecedented time.”
Hydro One is also investing in the local economy, and has committed to the development of a new operations centre and fleet maintenance facility in the Peterborough community.
Hydro One’s acquisition of the business and distribution assets of Peterborough Distribution will close on August 1, 2020. Starting with electricity use in August, customers will benefit from a one per-cent rate reduction to the base distribution portion of bills. The base distribution portion will be frozen at this rate for five years. Service and billing will continue to come from Peterborough Distribution, as Hydro One brings the two companies together.
