TORONTO, June 1, 2021 – Today, Hydro One officially joins the communities of Peterborough, Lakefield and Norwood and will continue energizing life in the communities for years to come. Energizing life for customers and communities means more than supplying safe and reliable power, it means supporting important local initiatives and organizations to build a better and brighter future for all. To celebrate, Hydro One is announcing its support of the Riverview Park and Zoo.
“We’re thrilled to officially join the communities of Peterborough, Lakefield and Norwood, and welcome our new customers and team members from Peterborough Distribution to the Hydro One family,” said Spencer Gill, Vice President, Customer Service, Hydro One. “We want our new customers to know that we’re committed to supporting them and the important local initiatives in the community. That’s why we’re excited to support an organization like the Riverview Park and Zoo that does so much for the region.”
“We are extremely grateful for the generous support through Hydro One’s Building Safe Communities program,” said Jim Moloney, Zoo Manager and Curator, Riverview Park and Zoo. “Closure has meant a significant loss in revenue, jobs, in-kind support and volunteers that we rely on annually to operate the only free-admission accredited zoo in Canada. These funds will help us ensure a continued safe work environment for our staff and the animals in our care, as well as help us prepare the site to welcome regional visitors back safely, sooner. We look forward to ongoing partnership as we continue to build safe communities together.”
“The City of Peterborough looks forward to working in collaboration with Hydro One to ensure all of our residents benefit from safe and reliable power. We thank Hydro One for their support of local projects and organizations,” said City of Peterborough Mayor Diane Therrien. “The Riverview Park and Zoo is an important destination for local families and this investment is greatly appreciated.”
“We are pleased to officially welcome Hydro One to the community of Lakefield in Selwyn Township,” said Selwyn Township Mayor Andy Mitchell. “Hydro One has demonstrated its commitment to the local communities it serves and we look forward to partnering with them in the future.”
“This is an exciting milestone and a great announcement for the region, and our community in Norwood,” said Township of Asphodel-Norwood Mayor Rodger Bonneau. “Hydro One’s partnership with the Riverview Park and Zoo demonstrates their continued support of important local organizations in the region, and we look forward to continuing to work with them on future partnerships.”
“I am pleased to see Hydro One continue its customer and community-oriented approach to providing service to Peterborough-Kawartha,” said Dave Smith, Member of Provincial Parliament, Peterborough—Kawartha. “I thank Hydro One for their support of the Riverview Park and Zoo; an important part of our community for families and tourism.”
“Hydro One’s investment in local organizations shows their commitment to being more than a service provider,” said David Piccini, Member of Provincial Parliament, Northumberland—Peterborough South. “Thank you to Hydro One for being an active community partner and supporting the Riverview Park and Zoo. Ontario’s tourism industry has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak, and your support will help this local business with the economic recovery ahead. I look forward to continuing to work with Hydro One in communities in my riding and across the province.”
