Peterborough, ON, Aug. 26, 2021 – Today, Hydro One announced additional support for Kawartha Food Share, a critical organization currently assisting more than 8,500 community members by distributing more than 100,000 pounds of emergency food in the city and county of Peterborough each year. Through every dollar donated, Kawartha Food Share is able to purchase up to $6 dollars of food. Hydro One’s contribution of $25,000 to Kawartha Food Share will support the organization in purchasing up to $150,000 worth of food to help those in need.
“We feel a deep responsibility to support the grassroots organizations working tirelessly to keep their communities safe,” said David Lebeter, Chief Operating Officer, Hydro One. “As a member of the community, Hydro One is proud to energize life in Peterborough, Lakefield and Norwood and to support Kawartha Food Share in making positive change in the fight against hunger.”
Due to rising needs from the COVID-19 pandemic, Kawartha Food Share and its member agencies have served an increased number of clients on a monthly basis over the past year. The support from Hydro One comes during the summer months when financial support and community giving to Kawartha Food Share typically experiences a decrease.

The past year has been challenging for our local food banks, clients, and the many staff and volunteers who work tirelessly providing emergency food to those who need it most in Peterborough and County,” said Ashlee Aitken, General Manager, Kawartha Food share. “During the summer months, our donations tend to decrease, while unfortunately the need has remained the same. Hydro One’s contribution towards our fight against hunger will allow us to purchase $150,000 worth of food items which will assist us in keeping our food banks shelves well supplied, and ensure that everyone in Peterborough and County has a safe and reliable access to nutritious food items.”
