PETERBOROUGH, ON, October 15, 2021 – Today, Hydro One announced its support for KidSport Ontario, a provincial charitable organization that helps children and youth aged 18 and under who are experiencing financial hardships. Hydro One’s support will give more than 150 children and youth the opportunity to participate in sport programs by providing financial assistance for registration fees and equipment in the communities of Peterborough, Lakefield and Norwood.
A survey by Imagine Canada1 found that COVID-19 has delivered a double hit to the charitable sector with more than two-thirds (68 per cent) of charities reporting a drop in donations at the same time as nearly half (46 per cent) are reporting an increase in demand.
“As a committed member of the Peterborough, Lakefield and Norwood communities, Hydro One is providing access to local sport programs and helping young athletes maintain their mental and physical well-being,” said Jay Armitage, Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Hydro One. “Especially during this challenging time, sports play a critical role in building resilience, confidence and leadership skills in young athletes on the field and in the community.”

Hydro One officially joined the communities of Peterborough, Lakefield and Norwood in June, and has provided support through its Building Safe Communities initiative in 2021 to the following organizations:
- Riverview Park and Zoo by providing funding to ensure a continued safe work environment for zoo staff and animals in its care, and to help prepare the site to safely welcome visitors back.
- Kawartha Food Share by providing funding to support the fight against hunger, as support tends to decrease during the summer months and need has remained the same.
- KidSport by providing funding that will benefit more than 150 children and youth with access to quality sport programs, through financial assistance for registration and equipment fees.
