Dunnville, ON, August 12, 2022 – Today, Hydro One announced it is investing more than $1 million to enhance local transmission infrastructure in Dunnville and the surrounding area which will improve power resiliency and reliability for years to come. The company will replace seven transmission wood pole structures that are nearing their end of life. Most of Hydro One’s electricity system was built in the 1950s and 1960s which means it is time to invest in renewing or replacing critical infrastructure in almost every community across the province.

“Homes and businesses throughout the Dunnville area rely on us to deliver the power that energizes their lives and communities,” said David Lebeter, Chief Operating Officer, Hydro One. “With storms getting increasingly stronger, Hydro One is investing in building a grid for the future in order to support local businesses, residents and the economy. We understand it is difficult to be without power and would like to thank customers for their patience while we complete this important work.”

In order to complete this investment, a power outage is required so crews can safely complete this work. The outage will take place on Sunday, August 28 from 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and affect approximately 5,800 Hydro One customers in Dunnville.

Approximately 45 employees, two cranes, four digger derricks, and 12 bucket trucks are scheduled to complete this important work during the outage. Crews are also completing as much work as possible in advance of the outage including preparing the site with portable mats, gravel roads and pads to facilitate access to the area where the towers are located.

The company is sharing tips to help customers prepare for the upcoming outage which includes:

  • Making sure appliances, such as the stove, are in the off position.
  • Making sure cellphones and devices are fully charged.
  • Using a battery-powered alarm clock or cellphone to ensure Sunday morning alarms aren’t missed.
  • Keeping refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible and using a cooler with ice for items needed during the planned outage.
  • If water services will be affected at your home, consider filling jugs of water to use for drinking and cooking.
  • If using a generator, remember to use it in a dry area outdoors away from any open windows, doors and vents. Visit the Electrical Safety Authority at esasafe.com for more tips.
